  • Anti Rant! Lets see how this goes!

    Okay!

I would love to rant about all the idiots and morons that bug me in everyday life. I would love to complain about the state of society and how many of the kids in my area are little s**ts who's parents need a slap. I would love to rant about how my Xbox 360 is in pieces at the moment because i have to keep constant pressure on the HANA chip for it to work.
And i would love to rant about how the water where i live is contaminated and i have to suffer bottled water for a week.

    BUT!

I think ill turn the idea on its head, put on my sunshine cap and praise the things that do make me happy.

I shall start with WTG. Big things are coming for the website this May, and i really am excited. Vosty and Sogo and the guys ( and girl ) have really done a great job and im proud to be a part of it. Click here to check it out, see if you can find me :)

Another thing that im enjoying at the moment are the nice people on xbox live, normally i rant about how there are to many whiners, or idiots screaming pwned at the top of their lungs, despite being bottom of the leaderboard, but ive spoken to a few really cool people on XBL too, and i have to say it makes the whole gaming experience a lot more pleasant.

Godfather 2, I really dont like movie tie ins, but this is a game that has really surprised me a lot... really!

Ive decided to overuse the word really a lot today :( but.. im not bothered so im not editing, you guys will just have to put up with it, sorry :)

Im also having a lot of fun arguing and/or laughing at the opinionated and/or misinformed people on the internet. Yes i'm perfectly aware im most likely misinformed on occasion, and for me to say im not opinionated would be a lie. But its this kind of hypocrisy that i find so entertaining.

Right im off, theres only so much niceness i can "do"... im going to crawl back into my bitterness now. take care :)

  • Is Survival Horror In Need Of A First Aid Spray?

    Survival Horror...

Those two words combined are scary enough themselves. When I was a young child, and i mean young, the scariest game i owned was Predator 2 on the Master System (followed shortly behind by Trap Door and Jack the Ripper for the C64). Horror games seemed to be exclusive to PC gamers back then. And anything that even came close to being scary on any consoles i owned lacked the visual power to provide any real "scares".

For me the first survival horror game i played was Alone In The Dark: One Eyed Jack on the SEGA Saturn. It wasnt really very scary, but it got me used to the kind of tension i would become so numb to in later games.

The next game i got my hands on was Resident Evil for the Sony Playstation. This was the first game that really scared me. I jumped when the dogs smashed through the windows, I was grossed out when i saw the FMV of the first zombie encounter, I wasnt even bothered by the poor voice acting and terrible script. Just knowing you had to get to the end of a zombie infested corridor and all you have on you is a knife and a herb was terrifying in itself. That was true survival horror. The zombies werent there to be shot at. They were there to be avoided, these slow lumbering monstrosities seemed like the most deadly enemy i had ever encountered. Sure, it was easy enough to run around them, but one wrong move and you was zombie meat. Add to that the fact that you could only save the game in specific places, and then only if you had a ribbon spare. It all just added up to the perfect survival horror experience at the time. And was perfectly recreated and evolved in Resident Evils 2, 3, C:V, 0, and the remake of 1 on the Gamecube.

Another survival horror game that deserves honourable mention is the Project Zero (Fatal Frame in USA) series. I never knew how unnerving a game could be until i played this. The idea of capturing spirits by taking pictures of them sounds like an awful idea on paper. But i kid you not, if you havent played a Project Zero game yet, you should look out for one next time you go past the preowned section in your local games shop. The storyline is as gruesomely dark as the environments. Lights will distract you, shadows will appear to attack you, and silhouettes will play with your mind. And thats before the ghosts start attacking you. I would say this game is scarier than Resident Evil and Silent Hill. And thats an achievement.

    ANYWAY!

Back to the point. And ill make it short and sweet like i wanted this blog to be.

Resident Evil 5... Is about as scary as dreaming you went to the shops with no pants on and then waking up.
Im not scared of any of the Majini, I have unlimited firepower and a partner who wont let me die. Bring it on.

Silent Hill Homecoming.... is as scary as switching on TV and finding out you missed your favourite film.
Im not scared of running around in the dark, Im much tronger than the last times round, and with my military background i can handle my weapons with finesse. Bring it on you weak undead freaks.

Project Zero 5 ... looks like it isnt going to be released outside of Japan. Thats the scariest thing in gaming this year!

Jericho, Dead Space and Bioshock... Good Games but definately not survival horror.

So do you guys agree that survival horror is in need of a first aid spray?

  • Man Finds Ectasy Tablets In Copy Of GTA

A man went into his local Gamestation, and came away with two copies of GTA and a wrap of MDMA.

"When I opened the box up, the cling film wrap fell out. I could not believe it," Thornhill said. "I have two children and my son plays Xbox all the time. He could easily have opened the box and found them. I dread to think what the consequences would have been if he had. He is only 12. He could have died."

"It was a pre-used game, but that should not make a difference. My wife is beside herself over this because she keeps thinking about what could have happened and so do I."

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Im not sure what bothers me more?

The fact that the drugs were found in a game which has been notorious for bad publicity, this could easily have a negative impact on the franchise. This is the kind of stuff Anti-Violent-Videogames Groups thrive on. Imagine the headline... DEALER INFLUENCED BY "DRUG GAME" TRADES STASH IN AT GAMESTATION, FOUND BY 12 YEAR OLD!!!Typically, the UK Media Monkeys who write for The Sun have already condemned GTA Chinatown Wars, over its drug dealing minigame. But then again.... The Sun can go screw themselves. They will write any old shite to fill their crappy tabloid.

OR the fact that he was buying an 18 rated game for his 12 year old son. This in my opinion is poor parenting. Perhaps buying for a 15/16 year old isnt too bad. They are expected to be old enough to control their own behaviour and sense of social morals. But many 12 year olds lack the developmental maturity to handle the kind of language and scenarios encountered in GTA. Im not saying they are going to go out and do a few drive-by's, but they can most likely begin to challenge authority, swear more, and push the limits of their own behaviour.

Gamestation , who most likely are checking all their preowned games across the country stated :

"We have rigorous procedures for accepting pre-owned titles and checking them before they are put back on sale. We have launched an immediate investigation and we will work closely with police to find out what happened in this instance."

I hope this doesnt have any kind of negative impact on the Trade in concept, or the GTA franchise.
Ironically, If Magic Mushrooms were found in Mario it would make for a good headline :)

Have you found anything weird in your bought trade ins?
  • Nothing to say....

  • Another Kiddy Strop From SONY!

You know what it's like when a new console is released, the competitors will have their shots at it. I was expecting a small comment from Sony about the newly released DSi, but not this, from John Koller, Director of Hardware Marketing for SCEA.

"If Nintendo is really committed to reaching a broader, more diverse audience of gamers beyond the "kids" market that they've always engaged, there isn't much new with the DSi to support that. Significant gamer demographic groups are being ignored, and there continues to be limited opportunities for games from external publishers to do well on the DSi. Compare that with the PSP platform, where we have many blockbuster franchises from our publishing partners launching this year, representing a wide variety of genres and targeting diverse demographics. Games such as Rock Band Unplugged from MTV Games, Assassin's Creed from Ubisoft, Dissidia Final Fantasy from Square Enix, and Hannah Montana from Disney demonstrate the commitment that publishers have to the PSP. From our own first-party studios, we're launching unique versions of LittleBigPlanet and MotorStorm, and we're also planning a steady stream of downloadable games -- both new titles and PSone classics -- to add to the content that PSP owners can already purchase wirelessly through PlayStation Store."

Clearly this man has been living in a dark hole for the last three years. I'm all for banter, but when a "Director of Hardware Marketing" can only respond to the competition with a childish retort worthy only of a primary school dropout, I'm left cringing in anguish. If he spent less time screaming "zomg you fail" and spent more time "ahem" MARKETING SONY'S PRODUCTS im sure Sony wouldn't be having such a hard time at the moment. I see a DS advert on TV about 6 times daily..... compared to Microsoft, who's adverts seem to pop up a few times a week, and then theres Sony, they arent on my TV so much. In fact whilst im writing this the Wii Fit advert with Louise Redknapp has popped on my TV. FREAKY!

I could rip his comments to shreds even more, in fact I will, by mentioning that the DS already has 2 Guitar Hero games, an Assassins Creed game, many Final Fantasy games and probably a Hannah Montana game. And i could probably write a bit more about perhaps Sony is just upset that Nintendo are using the exact same strategy Sony themselves used for the good old PSX, by releasing plenty of different games to cover every corner of the casual market. And to great effect.

So Mr. Koller, perhaps you should purchase a DSi, you and your comments seem to fit right into the "kids" market.

PS.. Im not a Fanboy of any kind. I own every console bar the PS3. (i still cant get used to the controllers)
